A Glimpse of Perspective. Perspective. Perspective.

A sharing of perspective

Like a dream/Never take things for granted (Lockdown poem)

I took it for granted
A cuppa from the office kitchen
A chat walking down the office to the meeting room 3
I will trade anything for the dungeon room
Meeting Room Number 4
The one without a window!

How is that now?
Lockdown!
I have to go through endless channels to even have a glimpse of that office
The one trapped between noisy trains& car traffic
Ironically, the headquarter to sustainable Transport.
But hey, the Lockdown has made it a literally sustainable
No noise, no pollution
It is the dream office, only the life has moved on…
The once use to be a crowded Hot desking Monday
Has seen endless silent days
Lockdown Mondays, Tuesdays to Sundays
How I crave those face to faces meetings!
Make mistake I mean real & not virtual, no offense😊

It was a Monday in March
And now it is a Friday in August
Some days I feel it like yesterday
Other I feel it has been ages
It is whether I stand on the victory day
Or the miserable one
Which one are you today?

It is okay you can tell me
Whether you nod a yes to “Are you all okay”
I can see through your unconvinced stare
Your reluctant smile!
The sigh, yes the sigh
It is okay not to be okay
it is okay to have a vent here and there
It is okay to let it all out!
At times keep it all in there
Just remember not to lose the you!
The real you, okay?

There is no longer space for the pretend
Keeping up appearances
How can we?
When inviting them all in!
Sharing the intimacy of our home
The laughter and faces of your children
The partner dropping in bringing a cuppa& biscuit
Or the empty rooms!
The unexpected images of a zoom call joined too earlier for your liking.
Unmuted voice inviting strangers in the comfort & casual conversation before you realise you are not on mute!

The “oops” moments for a clumsy gesture
Realising, there is no longer the need for a mask or keeping up the appearances
You real you is slowly coming out
All the layers off
Invite her/him/them in
For not to lose you again
That real you will save the world
That real you will save you!

Around the country
The world
Uncertainties
Calling us back to our humanity
To reach that place
We all share…
But don’t you go far
It is right here
Can you hear?
That heartbeat
Stop& listen
There, you have all the answers
Stay & listen

Our home
Now all in one
The office
The class
The nursery
The hospital
I didn’t know we can fit all in!
The laughs & screams
The virtual meetings
The Yoga poses, the dances & stretches
The home schooling
The cooking
The office cuddles& songs
Quizzes& even the virtual Pubs
I would have seen it all!

But we all know
What really matters
Don’t we?
Our families
Our friends
Our neighbours
Our Communities
Our essential workers
For all sacrifices made, here & there
We pull together
All as one
As we all crave and in waiting for the “New” Normal
We would say that was SOMETHING
Some paid a big price…
Others a small one…
But in the end we all share the burden& the blessings
No matter the perception of wrong or right
What unite as, stronger than what divide us
For in the end we feel this
And we all in this…Together…
When we say…before Covid 19…and after Covid19!
For it was all like a dream!
But for now, still too real to be a dream!

Who we Are

Welcome to our blog aglimpseofperspective.com. We are two friends, mothers ,who originate from Rwanda and currently living in United Kingdom (UK). We all immigrated to the UK when we were grown ups. Growing up from our culture, and later on living in a new culture has been challenging, as well as beneficial as you always analyse life challenges and opportunities from two angles. From our long conversations about the culture shock and motherhood challenges, emerged the idea of sharing our thoughts to the world , hence the name of our blog. Since the idea of the blog involves sharing, we would also be sharing other people’s perspective not just ours.   We welcome your perspectives as well. Have fun reading our blog.
